As one of N.Z's oldest established Pointer kennels we have been trying for 30 plus years to breed Pointers true to the UK type, using Crookrise based stock whenever possible. We do not breed often, usually when we need another dog, but we may have a puppy or older dog available. We welcome bookings from future matings.
A brief history of our breeding follows below, and at the bottom we have links to our individual dogs (Our Pointers), history of the Pointer in N.Z., photo gallery, and more.

Currently we are showing Sergio Porthcurno The Right Stuff a young son of our Carenza, (Porthcurno Imperial Pearl) a daughter of Juniper sired by Bonnygate Imperial Choice (UK). Her wins include Puppy In show NZ Pointer Club National 2009 under UK breed specialist Sue Wilkinson (Hurwyn), and Junior In Show 2010 under UK breed specialist Helga Edmondson (Crookrise).

Up and coming we also have Cara,(Porthcurno Carrera) a sister of our Zen (Porthcurno Berlinetta Lusso) from our 2013 litter.

Veterans - our Juniper Ch.Porthcurno Tartan Tights. An elegant daughter of Jo Dowthwaite's NZ Ch.Freebreeze Romantic Fool at Notting Hill and a great grand-daughter of our UK CH Crookise Old Glory via Porthcurno Highland Heather, her breeding includes many of the best dogs from our past. Her many wins include BOB NZKC Nationals 2008 under breed specialist Marjorie Martorella (Marjetta), and BIS NZ Pointer Club National 2009 under UK breed specialist Sue Wilkinson (Hurwyn).

Alongside her we have Boyd Ch.Chesterhope Razor Sharp at Porthcurno a black & white dog bred by Dianne O'Neill, also sired by NZ Ch.Freebreeze Romantic Fool at Notting Hill.
His wins include BIS NZ Pointer Club National 2010 under UK breed specialist Helga Edmondson (Crookrise).

All our current home-bred dogs trace back to our old favourite Ch.Audrey of Bernolga. Bred by our friend Rev.J.Unverricht "Flirt" as he called her came from the first Pointer litter bred in the South Island of N.Z. for many years, and she traces directly back to the famous old Stamford lines of Sid Geary. We believe we are the only current breeder in N.Z. to still have lines tracing directly back to this famous dual purpose kennel. (For more info see Flirt's page and the N.Z.History page) Mated in 1984 to that great producer in Australia Hazelbarrow Jude Imp UK (a son of the famous Ch.Crookrise Flint) she gave us two lovely dogs: Ch.Porthcurno Black Flash (Flash) who appears on our title page, and Ch.Porthcurno Touch of Gold (Angie).

Continuing our policy of using the Crookrise line wherever possible Ch.Porthcurno Touch of Gold was then mated to the imported NZ CH.Crookrise Sirius Imp UK who then gave us our Grand Ch.Porthcurno Touchin'Wood (Savannah), a multiple Best in Show winning bitch, and Ch. Porthcurno Blue Moon who went to live with Marlene Zanders.

In 1994 Grand Ch.Porthcurno Touchin'Wood was then mated to our Import NZ CH Galema Kiowa of Crookrise Imp UK and from this we kept our Ch.Porthcurno Cloud Chaser (Valentine) and Ch.Porthcurno Red Cloud who went to Gwen Thomson's Kenneally Red kennels. NZ CH Galema Kiowa of Crookrise Imp UK was also mated to Marlene Zanders' Ch.Porthcurno Blue Moon (sister to our Grand Ch.Porthcurno Touchin'Wood) and from this she kept Ch.Pinedene Luv is Blue.

Grand Ch.Porthcurno Touchin'Wood was next sent to Australia in 1996 to be mated to the import Aust Ch.Vossmead Firecrest of Crookrise Imp UK and from this litter we kept our Ch.Porthcurno Rose Touch, and also the dog Ch.Porthcurno Soliel D'or who was co-owned with junior handler Becky Randall.

In 1997 we were privileged to acquire that famous dog UK Ch.Croookrise Old Glory from Cicely Robertshaw, and since his arrival he has mated Julie Batchelor's Porthcurno Who's a Flirt and produced the young dog Porthcurno Blue Peter (Morse) and he has also mated Marlene Zanders' Ch.Porthcurno Blue Moon (sister to our Grand Ch.Porthcurno Touchin'Wood) and that produced Pinedene Aimin'For Glory. Mated to Tarquin Amy Brown from Australia he produced Porthcurno Jezabeel who then produced the brother and sister Ch.Porthcurno Highlander and Porthcurno Highland Heather (unshown)

At that time we also had our faithful friend Ch.Rhodes Southern Comfort bred by our friend Raynor Bonnington. Although his breeding contains none of our own dogs it does contain a number of famous UK dogs who came out to either N.Z. or Australia. Quigley was shown fearlessly along with Valentine, and for many years was a major winner in the showring coming very close to gaining the title of Grand Champion. No longer with us now, he will allways be remembered.
